Osteopathy Dogs & Canine

Osteopathy for dogs

Osteopathy for dogs is a holistic care approach focused on canine wellbeing. It is becoming more and more popular among pet owners who are concerned about the health of their faithful four-legged friends. This therapeutic practice is based on the principle that the body of a dog is an interconnected system, in which any imbalance can lead to health problems. Inspired by human osteopathic medicine, osteopathy for dogs aims to restore balance and mobility to the body, through the use of gentle techniques.

The principle of osteopathy for dogs involves evaluating the animal as a whole, taking its body structure, its musculoskeletal system and its general wellbeing into account. It can be used in a multitude of cases (joint pain, muscular disorders, posture problems and many others). Osteopathy can also help improve the quality of life of older dogs, by working on the dog's physical signs of ageing.

Effective care for your dog begins with a dialogue with the dog's owner.

What is the reason for the consultation? Can you give a precise description of your dog's symptoms? When did you first observe these symptoms? Have you noticed any behavioural changes in your dog? (aggression, lethargy, loss of appetite, fatigue, etc.) Has your dog had any surgical operations previous medical issues you are aware of? Have you noticed any weight fluctuations in your dog? Can you describe your dog's eating routine?

Following this interview, an initial assessment of the symptoms can be drawn up. Subsequently, the practitioner will observe the dog and observe the following:

  • The dog's mobility

  • Its posture

  • Its general physical condition

Based on these elements, the practitioner will decide which techniques will be necessary to improve the dog's health. Then the handling phase will take place, based on gentle and non-invasive handling techniques for your animal. Monitoring over time and regular dialogue with the owner will allow the dog's progress to be monitored

Manon Turbé

From my young age, I've been passionate about animals, today I have 13 in my care, dogs, cats, horses, birds and rabbits, and it's not over... I try as much as possible to help abused, abandoned or familyless animals.

So I looked for a way to best help them in gentleness, understanding and listening. It was then that I found animal osteopathy, a very beneficial method of care without having the medicalized side (vaccines, bites, surgeries, euthanasia).

Since my graduation from the ESAO in 2020, I have been pleased to offer my services to the ATE (Territorial Environment Agency) of Saint Barthélémy in order to help injured wildlife so that it can return to its natural state. I had the chance to actively participate in the fitness of several iguanas and birds of different species, which were released to return to their previous lives.
